• What is Lymphedema?

Lymphedema is a chronic swelling of an area due to permanent obstructions of lymphatic pathways that carry tissue fluid out of an area- especially protein rich fluid. Lymphedema can drastically impact or exacerbate other medical conditions reducing patient mobility and quality of life. Often characterized by persistent and chronic swelling, usually of a person's arm or leg.

Lymphatic vessels, which are similar to the circulatory system’s veins and capillaries, are connected to lymph nodes, where the lymph is filtered. The tonsils, adenoids, spleen and thymus are all part of the lymphatic system.
